Crawling
DJ has been crawling for over a week now and it has been quite an ordeal. Nothing is off limits to him or so he thinks. He has been on his hands and knees for about a month and Dave and I thought it wouldn't happen for a while, but out of the blue he just took off like he has been doing it for years. And yes, being the proud mama that I am I cried. My little guy is now mobile and is getting into everything! The cute thing about this is that he follows me wherever I go. He is just too cute. The bad thing is I can't get alot of things done. I have to wait til he's asleep. Oh well. This is him starting to take off!

Today I am sad to say that yesterday was DJ's last day nursing. It made me cry this morning when I denied him me and gave him a bottle instead. I know its natural to go through this and I know I can't nurse him forever (especially with those teeth!), but its hard. I'm starting to get a guilt complex and its not fun! Whatever happened to the carefree me? Where has she gone? I know this is for the best and I wouldn't change it for anything!

Swimming lessons
Today DJ started swimming lessons. He was alittle unsure the whole time we were in the water, but he didn't cry at all especially when we had to dunk their heads under water. Didn't phase him a bit. It helped that he had his friend Ella there and his new 'girlfriend' Charlotte. He sure was tired after that. Took a long nap...2 1/2 hours long. I guess swimming lessons tuckered the poor guy out!

Playdate at the park
Last weekend DJ met his 'girlfriend' Ella at the park for a playdate. They have known each other since they were 3 weeks old. DJ is only a day and a half older than her. The weather was sunny and a bit cool. Perfect park weather! As you can see they both enjoyed the swings, the sand, and eating socks and sand!!!

It has been quite the emotional rollercoaster lately. DJ has had alot of little things going on health wise. It all started with a bad eye infection that turned out to be pink eye at the end of January which needed antibiotics. For a week he was fine then a runny nose and congestion started up again...worse than normal. But my little trooper didn't let it get him down:) Well that runny nose and congestion turned into an ear infection, high fever, a trip to urgent care and the ER (all in the same day), and lets not forget to mention the vomiting in the middle of the night. I have never felt so helpless. I have never known such fear existed. Another round of antibiotics cleared up that infection. Now a week later it appears he may have another cold. He's been wheezy, some coughing and runny nose again! Saw the Dr yesterday for a 9 month check up and wasn't sure if the pink in his ears was a new infection or the old one going away! So now we are on steroids, and an inhaler. Possible antibiotics again in the future if he doesn't clear up!!!
The good news for this week is that DJ is starting to walk with a push car. He is very wobbly which is funny. No interest in crawling, but is ready to take off. another wonderful thing is that he has learned how to say his first word...MAMA! Yay! Now everyone is mama. These are exciting times!!!!

I am sorry to say my days of nursing my son are soon to be dwindling. Two days ago DJ bit me for the first time while nursing. It was quite a shock. I let it go thinking he was a reasonable 8 mo old and that it wouldn't happen again since I unlatched him and said "Ow, that hurts mommy." Later on that day on that same side he bit me again and I flicked his nose thinking that would solve it. But no, it happened again later on that day on that very same side and drew a little blood. At that moment after I finished blacking out I realized I would soon be ending the nursing.
I do have to say that he hasn't bitten me since, but I know it needs to happen. It makes me feel very sad. I enjoy having this closeness with him that he will never have with anyone else. It is and will always will be a once in a lifetime experience.

The Holidays
Well, the holidays have come and gone. It came so fast and ended too soon. My family from Cali came down for Xmas which was great. The saying is true about absence making the heart grow fonder and you don't know what you had until its gone or not there. Having my family here made me miss them even more!
This was DJs first Christmas. He enjoyed having family over, but was a little overwhelmed at first. Not sure how to take it. All in all he had a great time. There were plenty of hugs, kisses, and holding to go around! He enjoyed those things more than the presents he received. He would rather eat the wrapping paper! He definitely was spoiled.
As for New Year...it was a quiet evening of doing nothing and watching TV. New Years Day was absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful day for a hike with my little family. I hope everyone was as blessed as we were! Happy New Year to all!!!
